Kilimanjaro International is located 50 kilometres (31 miles) from Arusha. The airport is situated roughly halfway between Arusha and Moshi. Kilimanjaro International underwent privatization in the late 90s and the result is much better facilities. KLM now has daily direct flights from Europe to Kilimanjaro International.

The airport receives all international flights whose passengers are headed for inland Tanzania, for instance the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. Please note that you need to transfer to from Kilimanjaro to the Arusha Airport for these regional flights. International flights often arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport late at night, making an overnight stop in Arusha necessary.

Air Tanzania runs direct flights from Johannesburg to Kilimanjaro every day except Monday and Thursday, and direct flights from Kilimanjaro to Johannesburg every day except Tuesday and Friday.
