The small town of Mahenge lies on the limestone plateau of the same name, about 50km west of Singida.
It is hardly large nor remarkable enough to merit travellers' attentions. The town has a hospital, a market, a primary school and the mandatory Christian mission station.
Some trivia: the Mahenge Bat was discovered near Mahenge town, a fossil that represented the oldest placental mammal ever found south of the equator in Africa.
