Morogoro

Morogoro is an orderly town set against the glorious backdrop of the Uluguru mountains to the southeast, which tower to a height of 2,635m. Morogoro would feel as scruffy as the next Tanzanian town were it not for its excellent planning, which has given it a green and spacious atmosphere.

The healthy feeling that pervades Morogoro might just be due to the fresh fruit and vegetables available at the market (the town's agricultural surrounds supply Dar Es Salaam with fresh produce).

Morogoro is no great shakes as a tourist stop, but it's quite pretty and offers a good introduction to Tanzanian life outside Dar Es Salaam. There are also some fine hikes in the surrounding areas, which area easy to arrange from here.
