Moshi

Located only 800 metres from the foot of Kilimanjaro, the coffee-growing town of Moshi is the starting point for the majority of Kilimanjaro climbs, although most travellers do their outfitting and organising in Arusha.

Because Moshi is at the centre of one of Tanzania's major coffee-growing regions the town is reasonably prosperous, and its self-sufficiency gives it a wonderfully relaxed feel. The town is also a major education centre.

Although most people come to Moshi for Kilimanjaro, the town is a pleasant place to spend for a few days. Moshi is also a little cheaper than Arusha.
