Mtwara

Mtwara is a large coastal town and the administrative cente of the Rovuma region, located just north of Tanzania's southern border with Mozambique.

Despite a population approaching 100,000, Mtwara is a dispersed sort of town with its modern harbour, residential areas and market centre kilometres apart.

There's not much in the way of sightseeing, though the atmosphere is pleasant enough. Of Mtwara's various features, the market is probably the best to visit. Another goody is the nearby Benedictine Church of Saint Paul with its elaborate and modern decorative art.
