Pangani is an old Tanzanian town that has been forgotten by modern time. Although an important trade centre in the 19th century, its significance has waned and Pangani now characterised by crumbling buildings of all architectural eras.
Pangani retains the most Swahili atmosphere of any town on Tanzania's northern coast. It's beautifully situated on the north bank of the Pangani River mouth, from where a stunning beach streaks away to the northern horizon.
There's plenty to see in Pangani, and many activities available to keep you occupied. The town's time-warped and abandoned charm is intriguing, and the surroundings are beautiful.
