Many people go on safari in the Serengeti for one thing: wildlife. Indeed, the Serengeti is synonymous with vast herds of game, predators and open savanna and the most popular way to experience this is from a game drive vehicle on a classic Serengeti safari.
Because the Serengeti is so big it's a different adventure each day - plus you never know what's waiting around the corner! - Africa safari expert Maureen Stover
With this overwhelming association though, other activities are often overlooked. The area is the home of the Maasai and other peoples, and trips to experience the cultures of Tanzania can be arranged - see our cultural experiences feature here.
A balloon safari over the plains is one of the more popular activities allowing for a different view of the wildlife and landscape.
A completely different take is found on a fly-camping adventure: leave the cosy confines of the lodge behind and head out into the wilds to experience life on the savannah under canvas or a mosquito net - and don't worry, there'll still be plenty of comfort and security!
Walking, either as a short nature walk or a full-on walking safari, is a way of experiencing nature up close and learning about the smaller things that make up the wilderness.
