The Serengeti is an unfenced park so you can't tell the difference between where the park ends and where private concessions begin.
The private concessions that line the Serengeti's eastern border offer you activities such as walking safaris and night game drives that are otherwise prohibited in the park - you can even experience the thrill of camping out in the bush in a fly-camp.
The concessions are at their most worthwhile in November. Then the giant herds move along the park's eastern boundary thick and fast as they feast on fresh grass.
At this time, camps in the north-east of the Serengeti offer wildlife encounters that are among the migration's most spectacular.
Find out more about the path the migrating animals take here.
Klein's Camp - At the heart of the Maasai grazing lands, this small and intimate camp is superbly located for great game viewing in the neighbouring Serengeti. Ideal for honeymooners, this camp is also big on sustainable tourism and community projects.
Serengeti Under Canvas - A seasonal colonial-style camp that moves with the migration, Serengeti Under Canvas doesn't sacrifice comfort: expect luxurious tents, delicious food and a private butler service.
