The white sands of Zanzibar's beaches epitomise the island paradise we've seen in those 'wish you were here' postcards. So, for a little wish fulfilment, spend a few days on the Spice Island. From sipping cocktails in the sun to snorkelling in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, a Zanzibar beach day is sure to get even the most wound-up holiday maker to unwind.
Zanzibar is also renowned for having some of the best diving in the world, and the coral reefs that surround Unguja and Pemba are home to exquisite marine life.
Zanzibar's islands are generally flat and low lying; their coasts made up of rocky inlets, sandy beaches, lagoons, swamps and coral reefs. A few pockets of indigenous forest remain, but for the most part the islands consist of wide open clearings thanks to human habitation.
