Getting Around Zanzibar

Local buses, minibuses and small vans called dala-dalas will get you from Zanzibar Town to the surrounding towns and villages. All land transport fares are really cheap but minibuses and dala-dalas are faster than buses.

Private cars or minibuses can be hired through a variety of tour companies - getting around Zanzibar this way offers you more flexibility, but it comes at a price.

On Pemba Island, there are fewer options for getting around although minibuses and dala-dalas do link the main town of Chake Chake with other major towns and villages. Be warned, the island is small but the roads are rough and bumpy.
