After early morning game drives and keeping your eyes peeled for wild animals, it's great to kick back and relax on a tropical beach for a few days. Conveniently located off the coast of one of Africa's best safari destinations, Zanzibar and a safari complement each other perfectly.
Many of our Zanzibar tours are created to combine a wild African safari with an exotic Zanzibar island holiday.
This World Heritage Site deserves your attention for at least a night or two as you travel around Zanzibar. Narrow cobbled streets framed by ancient buildings will swallow you up on a walk through the town. Half the fun is getting lost in Stone Town, as each corner offers you something special, from encounters with interesting locals to beautiful buildings and roadside fabric stalls. A visit to Stone Town is an essential part of Zanzibar travel.
A Zanzibar island holiday offers visitors some of the best diving in the Indian Ocean and the pristine marine life is well worth the plunge for divers. The Zanzibar islands of Pemba and Mafia are world renowned diving destinations and the scuba-diving around Mnemba Private Island is incredible, with sheer coral cliffs and the chance of swimming with whale sharks.
If you're new to diving, you can complete diving courses at one of the many diving schools on Zanzibar Island. If you're not up for the technicalities of diving, then strap on a snorkel and a pair of flippers to explore the marine world.
The ocean is the main attraction on a Zanzibar island holiday. Glide across the Indian Ocean in a traditional wooden sailing boat. Take a dhow cruise to explore nearby islands and jump overboard to for a refreshing swim at various secluded and beautiful spots. You can enjoy lunch on the dhow, a little lively music and a famous Zanzibar sunset.
Spices and herbs share an intimate relationship with life on Zanzibar. Traditional meals, medicine and ceremonial clothing are all infused with island spice. A walking tour of the island's spice plantations is a wonderfully sensory experience and a must-do for first-timers to Zanzibar travel.
