Chumbe Island Coral Park is situated on Chumbe Island, which is 6 miles (9km) southwest of Stone Town and a 40-minute boat ride from Mbweni beach.

Situated in a Marine Protected Area (MPA) the focal aim is to preserve this island's exceptional environment, the lodge has been designed to minimise the impact on the natural environment.

Several activities are possible on the island. In fact, the whole of Chumbe Island is a nature reserve and you may explore its beauties either under the competent guidance of the park rangers or on your own with the help of laminated cards and leaflets available.

You could also snorkel through the shallow water Reef Sanctuary, explore the Forest Reserve or look for historical monuments. Alternatively, allow yourself a lazy day at the beach watching dhows and outrigger boats go by.

Included in the accommodation price at Chumbe Island Coral Park are all the food, soft drinks, snacks, park fees, park ranger services such as forest walks, guided snorkelling on the reef (with all equipment provided), scheduled boat transfers to and from the island.

Dining at Chumbe Island Coral Park takes place under the impressive roof of the visitor's centre, which overlooks the sea between Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania.

The chefs provide an abundant supply of dishes that are a mixture of Zanzibarian, Arabic, Indian and African tastes and are suitable for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians.

Between the beach and the forest are the 7 double or twin-bedded eco-bungalows of Chumbe Island Coral Park with en-suite showers, built with local materials such as mangrove poles and coconut leaf thatch.

Popular with honeymooners, the bungalows themselves are well designed to provide both privacy and a sense of freedom of living in the open. All bungalows overlook the sea and it takes just 30 seconds to stroll from the comforts of your bungalow hammock to feeling the warm tropical ocean lapping at your feet.

All bungalows at Chumbe Island Coral Park are equipped with double or twin beds in the sleeping area under the palm-thatched roof, self-contained bathrooms with hot & cold showers, large living rooms, equipped with handmade furniture, decorated with African art and colourful fabrics and have very comfortable hammocks.

To preserve Chumbe Island's exceptional environment, the accommodation has been built based on state-of-the-art eco-architecture. These eco-bungalows make use of natural resources to supply you with necessities: rainwater is collected from the roof during the rainy season and stored for use; compost toilets have been installed; the water from the showers is recycled through plant beds; and lights are powered by photovoltaic panels on the roof.
