Day to Day Itinerary

Days 1-2

Be awed in Amboseli

You are met at Nairobi International Airport and transferred by light airplane to Porini Amboseli Camp within the exclusive Selenkay Conservancy, just a few kilometres north of the Amboseli National Park. With striking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, this intimate camp is designed along the lines of a traditional tented camp but includes luxuries such as an en suite bathroom and solar-powered lighting. Protected since 1997 under an agreement with the local Maasai community, this magnificent wilderness area is renowned for both resident and migrating animals that share the conservancy with a maximum of just 18 visitors per day. This sustainable ‘tread-lightly’ approach to tourism is not only beneficial to you in terms of exclusivity but also to the animals and their precious habitat.

Enjoy 4x4 game drives and Maasai-guided nature walks through both Amboseli National Park and the Selenkay Conservancy, with the opportunity to encounter nocturnal life such as serval cats, bat-eared foxes and aardvarks on spotlit night drives. Big game and predators, including lion, leopard and cheetah, are regularly spotted here. The conservancy’s birdlife is prolific, with a bird of prey list to impress even the most seasoned of twitchers. From the camp you also have the luxury of a furnished viewing platform from where you can keep an eye on the nearby waterhole where elephant and giraffe regularly come to drink. On a village visit, learn about the unique culture of the Maasai and how they live reciprocally with the natural environment. A full day's game viewing includes a packed picnic lunch to be enjoyed in the park and evening game drives conclude with a sundowner in a scenic location before sharing bush tales around the fire, and dinner under the star-studded sky.

Days 3-4

Splendid isolation

This morning you depart by plane for Wilson Airport where you connect with another flight to Ol Seki Airstrip. From here you are transferred to Porini Mara Camp, which has the privilege of being the only one in the entire Ol Kinyei Conservancy. Recognised as one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, its classic east African landscape of open plains, savannah, forests, streams and rivers is home to an abundance of wildlife, including some of Kenya’s most thriving predator populations. Like at Amboseli, this sustainable eco-camp comprises no permanent structures and uses environmentally friendly fuel. The surrounding conservancy is owned by the local Maasai community and the camp is operated with the two main objectives of preserving the land and its inhabitants, and creating a source of employment for the local Maasai people.

While staying at the multi award-winning camp, enjoy ranger-and-tracker guided 4x4 drives in the Ol Kinyei – where you will see no other vehicles – as well as within the beautiful Naboisho Conservancy and the neighbouring Masai Mara National Reserve. Maasai-guided walking safaris get you up-close to small animals and plants often missed from the vehicle, while providing the opportunity for the passionate guides to impart their wealth of indigenous knowledge about this fascinating landscape. Spoil yourself one morning and float off into the sky on a hot air balloon for a unique bird’s-eye perspective of the Mara plains and its inhabitants, topped off with a champagne breakfast in a scenic location.

You are comfortably accommodated in one of just six spacious tents with spectacular views across the Mara, which like at Amboseli, is equipped with an en suite bathroom and solar-powered lighting to provide a genuine camping experience while offering many of the comforts – such as an electric blanket and room service – associated with a top-quality hotel. Everyone dines together in the communal mess tent where there is a large table around which you socialise and share stories of the day’s sightings, some of the best of which might have occurred within the camp itself!

Day 5

After breakfast you are transferred to Ol Seki Airstrip from where you connect with another flight to Wilson Airport, and onto Nairobi for your onwards journey home.
