Day to Day Itinerary

Days 1-2

Relax and drink in Durban's sunshine

Your adventure begins as you arrive at Durban International Airport and collect your rental vehicle. From here you'll drive for about half an hour and arrive at Hotel Izulu. Situated on Durban's popular north coast suburb of Ballito, this boutique hotel will provide your accommodation for the next two nights.

Check in and spend the rest of the afternoon lazing by the pool and enjoying a refreshing drink or two: Izulu is ideal for complete relaxation in a luxurious environment.

Your days can be spent taking long strolls on the nearby beach, cooling off in the Indian Ocean and basking in the sun. Treat yourself to custom-designed revitalising treatments at the fully equipped Impilo Beauty Spa or just laze around the pool area.

A fantastic dining experience awaits you in the evenings as the celebrated international executive chef at Izulu personally selects the finest local ingredients for your meals.

Days 3-4

Discover the KwaZulu Natal midlands

Today you'll leave the coast behind as you travel to Granny Mouse Country House. Situated in the heart of the green and leafy KwaZulu Natal Midlands, this hotel and spa serves as a gateway to the foothills of the Drakensberg - South Africa's greatest mountain range.

After settling in, you could spend the afternoon taking a leisurely stroll down the river for some bird watching, or you can walk to a nearby waterfall or just laze under the willows on the Common - you could even try your hand at fly-fishing in one of the pools.

As the next day dawns you might feel like a bit of adventure - try the Karkloof forest canopy tour, a horseback excursion or a hot-air balloon adventure. Come back to the hotel for an in-house beauty or spa treatment and a swim in one of the two pools before sitting down to a delicious gourmet dinner at the hotel's restaurant.

Days 5-6

Stay on a tranquil stud farm

Today you will make your way through rolling countryside to Hartford House where you'll spend the following two nights. Spend your afternoon strolling around this beautiful estate, which includes a horse stud farm, before returning to the hotel and pampering yourself at the wellness centre.

You have a full day here the next day and you'll have a range of activities to choose from including horse riding excursions, trout fishing, bird watching and scenic walks.

Book a seat at the hotel's award-winning restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner and indulge in fantastic gourmet meals as you overlook the estate's magnificent gardens. Get romantic with a candle-lit dinner in the dining hall where on some nights you can look forward to special entertainment with performances by Zulu dancers and singers.

Days 7-8

Stay in the shadow of Ghost Mountain

After one last delicious breakfast you will continue your journey to and travel to the legendary Ghost Mountain, where you'll spend the next two nights in the Ghost Mountain Inn.

Join one of the many tours organised by the hotel to explore your new surroundings. Enjoy a Big Five game drive, hiking, birdwatching or even fishing.

If you feel like purely relaxing, you can spend hours beside the swimming pool, absorbing the peaceful surroundings or getting pampered in the health spa and steam room. Visit one of the two pubs, Tshaneni on the terrace or Mtwazi, the original pub from when the Inn was built in 1962.

Days 9-10

Relax in the beautiful White River area

Today you will leave KwaZulu Natal behind and travel to Mpumalanga Province and settle into your cosy accommodation at Jatinga Country Lodge, situated just outside the charming town of White River.

The White River runs through the lodge's garden, providing ideal opportunities for scenic strolls along its banks or through beautiful gardens, citrus orchards and pine forests.

Kick back on the pool deck, taking in these peaceful surroundings and watching the abundant birdlife fluttering around the garden. Enjoy a gourmet lunch or afternoon high tea and sit down to an a la carte dinner in the evening at the lodge's restaurant.

If you feel like venturing out, you are well placed to access the scenically dramatic Panorama Route, one of South Africa's many areas of impressive natural beauty - highlights include God's Window and the Blyde River Canon.

Day 11-13

Safari in Kruger & Sabi Sands

Today you will make your way into the renowned Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve and settle into your accommodation for the following two nights - Exeter Dulini Private Game Lodge.

Sabi Sands shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park, making your morning, afternoon and evening game drives incredibly rewarding. Not only do you have excellent chances of seeing the Big 5, but Sabi Sands is full of classic African mammals and birds and offers some of Southern Africa's best game viewing.

Spend the hottest part of the day lazing around in luxury at the lodge, enjoying your private plunge pool and watching animals stroll past the lodge. The more active-minded might enjoy a guided nature walk or a workout at the gym before a leisurely afternoon siesta.

In the evening you will gather around the African open-air boma and enjoy exquisite cuisine under the stars.

Day 14

Return to Johannesburg

After one last morning game drive, head back to OR Tambo International Airport where you will drop off your rental vehicle before continuing with your travel arrangements.
