Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1

In the shadow of Mount Meru

Your safari adventure begins as soon as you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and are transferred to Arusha Coffee Lodge. Set amid fragrant plantations with looming Mounts Meru and Kilimanjaro in the distance. Dust yourself off and relax with a freshly-brewed cuppa or journey to Arusha National Park in Ngurdoto Crater or the world-famous Laetoli Footprints, which are some of humankind’s earliest marks and date back 3.5 million years.

Days 2-3

Relax in the treetops

Return to Arusha Airport and transfer to Manyara airstrip. From there, take a meandering game drive to Lake Manyara Tree Lodge. Set in Lake Manyara National Park, keep your binoculars trained to spot its unusual tree-climbing lions and enormous bands of elephant. The lake is tinged pink with flamingo feathers, just one of the more than 400 bird species found here while the park is also home to the Maji Moto hot springs.

Situated high in the boughs of a mahogany tree, your immaculate ‘tree house’ has a private viewing deck and a refreshing outdoor shower, and is hidden away in the park.

Days 4-5

The majesty of Ngorongoro

After a final sunrise game drive, your return to Manyara airstrip for your transfer to Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, your comfortable home for the next two evenings.

Perched on the rim of the crater affords it spellbinding views of the crate floor, which gives shelter to more than 25 000 animals and one of the highest concentrations of predators any in Africa. The largest intact caldera in the world, its diverse habitats of savannah, woodlands and wetlands offer like to all the Big 5 and some of the largest-tusked elephants anywhere.

Days 6-8

Be enthralled by the Serengeti

Tuck into breakfast with your last gaze over the crater before flying to the world-renowned and wildlife-packed Serengeti National Park. As you enter the park, you are already on an exciting game drive as you head for magical Serengeti Under Canvas. Your suite is housed in a Bedouin-style tent and a fun outdoor shower.

The Serengeti is best known for the Great Migration, when millions of wildebeest and other game migrate to the Masai Mara in search of fresh pastures and water, pursued by a host of predators. The animals’ dramatic river crossings make for awe-inspiring viewing and once-in-a-lifetime photographs, and seeing the Migration from a tranquil early-morning hot-air balloon ride is a sight you will never forget

Olduvai Gorge, scene of ground-breaking archaeological discoveries, is also located in the Serengeti. Game drives will immerse you in the splendour of the bush: the golden grass hiding prowling cheetahs, vultures and eagles soaring in the blue skies.

Day 9

Return to Arusha

Legendary Lodge is your plush home for your final night in Arusha. It is set on a fragrant working coffee farm and guests can mountain bike through the lush plantation or hit the squash and tennis courts. Or head to the spa for a relaxing treatment followed by a cup of fresh Tanzanian coffee (or tea!) in the manicured gardens.

Day 10

Say hello to Johannesburg

From the wide open plains to one of Africa’s most dramatic cities: Johannesburg is the pulse of South Africa and has an electric energy all of its own. This morning you will make your way to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight to ‘Jozi’ via the Kenyan capital of Nairobi.

From OR Tambo International Airport you will transfer to The Peech, a chic, eco-friendly boutique hotel in the trendy neighbourhood of Melrose. With its own wine cellar, bistro, swimming pool and private access to a top fully-equipped gym, it is the perfect place to wind down after an East African exhilarating safari.

Days 11-12

Be picked up by private transfer and driven to the Capital Park Train Station where you'll board the Pride of Africa for an epic train trip to Cape Town. Billed as the most luxurious train on Earth, expect polished brass, twinkling crystal and a plush suite where the rhythm of the wheels on the tracks will lull you to sleep.

Settle into your comfortable cabin or sit back in the Observation Carriage, watching as the ever-changing countryside passes by. Go over to the Restaurant Carriage for a delicious meal as you indulge in this classic mode of transport.

On the morning of the second day, stop in the Victorian diamond rush town of Kimberley to visit the 'Big Hole' – the deepest man-made cavity in the world - and take a tour of this historic city.

Days 13-15

Explore the streets of Cape Town

Reaching the quiet Karoo town of Matjiesfontein today, you'll have the opportunity to disembark and stretch your legs in a place that has changed little since its heyday in the late 1800s.

After departing Matjiesfontein, you'll pass through Tweedside and Worcester before pulling into Cape Town Station in the early evening. After disembarking you will be met and transferred to the elegant Cape Grace Hotel at the V&A Waterfront, where you will spend the last three nights of your tour.

Over the next few days, explore all the wonderful attractions that the Mother City has to offer. Hike or take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain, pay a visit to historic Robben Island or hire a car to meet the penguins at Boulders Beach and explore Cape Point, the dramatic clash of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.
