Classic Cape, Kruger & Vic Falls Adventure

Touch down at Cape Town International Airport today and pick up your rental car before making your way into the city of Cape Town - known to locals as South Africa's 'Mother City'.

Arrive at Welgelegen Guest House, a charming and secluded private home situated in a cul de sac in the central city neighbourhood of Gardens. Welgelegen means 'well-located' and is indeed well named as you'll be within walking distance of the city centre and vibrant Long Street, home to a wide range of bars, deli's and restaurants.

You'll be spending the following four nights here so there's plenty of time to relax this afternoon and plan the next few days ahead.

The next three days are yours to explore the many attractions of Cape Town. Since you have your own transport, you can do everything at your own pace: kick off with a trip to the top of Table Mountain on foot or by cable car and later enjoy a walk along Camps Bay beach or Sea Point promenade. Be sure to include a day trip out to Cape Point and the penguin colony at nearby Boulders Beach.

You can also relax with a picnic at the incomparable Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, go shopping at the ever-popular V&A Waterfront or get a dose of history with a boat trip to Nelson Mandela's prison cell on Robben Island. Further afield, you could take in shark-cage diving at Gansbaai or spot whales at Hermanus and the Whale Coast during the spring whale season.

Cape Town boasts numerous world-class restaurants, bars and cafes scattered around its bustling streets and shopping centres - just ask staff at the guest house for their recommendations.

Today you will drive back to the airport and drop off your rental car before catching a flight to Kruger Mpumalanga Airport. Here you'll be met and transferred to Honeyguide Mantobeni Tented Safari Camp, situated in the Manyeleti Private Game Reserve on the unfenced border of the Kruger National Park.

Settle in and relax before embarking on your first exciting afternoon/evening game drive. Here you'll have chance to encounter the reserve's rarely-seen nocturnal animals before returning to a delicious fireside dinner.

The following two days are yours to explore Manyeleti as you go on game drives and guided nature walks to search for the resident big game and birds that call this 23 000 hectares of Kruger wilderness their home. This is serious Big 5 country and a two-day stay should reveal all the members of this exclusive club plus an extensive list of other classic animals such as zebra, giraffe, hippo and hyena.

Get up early in the morning to go on expertly-led game drives with passionate guides and return to scrumptious mid-morning breakfasts followed by a few lazy hours of relaxing, reading and sleeping. After enjoying lunch and afternoon tea, you will head out on another afternoon drive, stopping at a scenic spot for sundowner drinks before returning to camp via a spotlit night drive.

Today you'll enjoy one last game drive before being transferred back to Kruger Mpumalanga Airport. Catch your connecting flight to Johannesburg where you'll spend a night at the Peermont Metcourt Hotel.

After all the excitement and early-morning starts of your Big 5 safari, this is the chance to relax and enjoy a quiet night in; alternatively, you could hit the town and enjoy dinner and drinks at one of Johannesburg's many restaurants - allow staff at the hotel to make recommendations and bookings.

Return to the airport this morning and catch your flight to Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe. On arrival you'll be met and transferred to The Victoria Falls Hotel.

Located within a few hundred metres of the entrance gate to Victoria Falls, this elegant, colonial-era hotel has been carefully preserved to retain its old-world charm and extensively refurbished to include all the luxury amenities you'd expect from such a famous establishment.

Check in and enjoy a cream tea on the veranda before taking a walk into the Victoria Falls National Park to catch your first glimpse of the mighty 'Smoke that Thunders'.

Victoria Falls is not one of the world's natural wonders for nothing: you have two full days to experience as much of the adventure, sightseeing and drama that the area around this thundering spectacle has to offer.

Top of the list of adventures is whitewater rafting down the Zambezi River and bungee jumping off the railway bridge. You could also go for a thrilling helicopter, light plane or microlight flight over the Falls for a view from up high while other activities on offer include elephant-back safaris, game drives in the local Mosi Oa Tunya National Park, tranquil canoe trips on the Zambezi and bird watching - this region is one of Southern Africa's best birding destinations.

Enjoy one final breakfast on the terrace of The Victoria Falls Hotel before being transferred back to Victoria Falls Airport to continue with your onward travel arrangements.
