Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in the Namib Desert

Arrive at Windhoek International Airport where you will pick up your rental car. From here, begin your journey south to Kulala Desert Lodge, located on the private Kulala Wilderness Reserve in the vast and beautiful Namib Desert.

Settle into your home for the following three nights and take a moment to sit back and absorb the dramatic landscape and views of towering dunes. If there's time, you could head out on an afternoon game drive in the private reserve.

Days 2-3

Climb the world's largest sand dunes

These two full days are yours to explore the fascinating area on guided game drives and nature walks. An early morning start will reward you with the incredible sight of the sun rising over the nearby Sossusvlei dunes, the highest sand dunes in the world.

Explore the Kulala Wilderness Reserve on foot or by vehicle with a professional guide who will tell you all about this incredible desert environment and how the plants and animals have adapted to survive in such harsh circumstances - there's more life than you may think out in the Namib!

In the evenings, relax on your rooftop veranda looking up at the myriads of stars in the vast open sky - stargazing in the Namib is something quite extraordinary.

Days 4-5

Experience adventure at Swakopmund

Enjoy one more breakfast in the desert before you make your way through the Namib-Naukluft National Park only to suddenly come across the clear, blue Atlantic Ocean. Stop at the sleepy town of Walvis Bay and visit its famous lagoon to view thousands of flamingos. Turn north along the coast to the charming town of Swakopmund, literally wedged between the ocean and the desert, and settle into The Swakopmund Guesthouse for the following two nights.

Spend the afternoon and the next full day experiencing the many adventure activities available in this quaint, German colonial-era town. The adventurous will enjoy sand boarding, quad biking, paragliding and sky diving over the dunes while others can check out the many galleries and shops that line the town's main streets.

Days 6-8

Go rhino tracking in Damaraland

Head up the Skeleton Coast this morning and arrive at Cape Cross where you can stop to view the largest fur seal colony in southern Africa before enjoying lunch. Afterwards, you'll drive into the harsh interior of the country and the private Palmwag Concession. Situated in the geographically unique Damaraland region, Desert Rhino Camp offers you an intimate home with huge views of the desert and mountains.

In Damaraland you'll go on thrilling rhino-tracking excursions though you'll see much more than rhinos. Keep your eyes peeled for the desert-adapted elephant, Hartmann's mountain zebra, giraffe, gemsbok and other wildlife - even lion. The camp partners with the 'Save the Rhino Trust' and is working closely with the organisation to conserve the region's endangered black rhino.

Days 9-11

Explore the renowned Etosha National Park

Bid farewell to Damaraland as you make your way east to the game-rich Ongava Private Game Reserve and your accommodation for the following three nights - Andersson's Camp. Situated next to the Etosha National Park, the reserve offers an abundance of game viewing opportunities and a truly African safari experience.

Embark on either self-drives or guided game drives into the famous Etosha National Park where you'll be on the lookout for the park's signature species - elephant, lion, cheetah and black rhino - plus a wide range of both classic savannah animals and desert specialists. The park is Namibia's premier big game destination and offers a rewarding game viewing experience thanks to its pancake-flat nature and low vegetation which make seeing animals easier. And easy it is: sometime all you need to do is head for one of Etosha's waterholes and just sit and wait - animals come to drink throughout the day.

Later return to Andersson's for relaxing evenings in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Day 12
