South Africa is one of the continent's top wildlife destinations and this six-day safari takes you to two of the country's best private game reserves to deliver luxurious safari accommodation, superb guiding and superlative game viewing.

Start off at Ngala Tented Camp, set in the Timbavati Game Reserve and adjoining the Kruger National Park. You'll head out on guided day and night game drives in search of the Big 5 and other classic African animals - and there are excellent birding opportunities too.

Then you'll travel to northern Kwazulu Natal to continue your safari at the extraordinary Phinda Private Game Reserve, staying at Phinda Forest Lodge. This diverse reserve is home to the Big 5, offers some of the best cheetah sightings in the country and is home to some of South Africa's best bird watching.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in the Timbavati Game Reserve

Arrive at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport and transfer to Benoni Airport where you'll catch your flight to the Kruger region. You'll then board a short flight into the Timbavati Game Reserve, located on the unfenced border of the Kruger National Park.

Check in at Ngala Safari Lodge, where you will spend the next two nights. If there's enough time, you can head out on an afternoon game drive.

Day 2

Spot the Big 5 in Kruger

Spend your full day here enjoying excellent game viewing on early morning and late afternoon/early evening game drives, led by expert guides. The lodge is set in a game-rich area and is famous for its predators, Big 5 sightings and a long list of bird species.

When you aren't game viewing, the lodge's pool is a peaceful place to relax and escape the heat of the day. In the evening you can sit on the viewing deck above the Timbavati riverbed and enjoy a few drinks with your fellow guests.

Days 3-5

Experience the Phinda Reserve

After breakfast, you'll fly to the beautiful Phinda Private Game Reserve in Kwazulu Natal to spend the next three nights at Phinda Forest Lodge.

This untouched wilderness is located in one of Africa's most diverse regions and boasts a mosaic of different ecosystems ranging from palm savannahs and mopane scrub to rare sand forest and wetlands. The reserve is also packed with animals - including cheetah, both black and white rhino and the rest of the Big 5.

At Phinda you'll go on a variety of game viewing activities such as game drives or guided nature walks. Birdwatchers will not be disappointed either as Phinda ranks as one of the best birding destinations in Southern Africa - over 360 species have been recorded in the reserve.

Day 6

Fly back to Johannesburg

Check out of Phinda Forest Lodge today and head back to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg.
