Discover why Porini camps rank among the best in East Africa on this 5-day fly-in safari. Begin your journey in the foothills of Mount Kenya with two nights at Porini Rhino Camp in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Spend the next two nights at Porini Lion Camp in the Olare Orok Conservancy on the border of the legendary Masai Mara. Porini's famously friendly staff care for you throughout, adding a special touch to this authentic safari experience.

Both camps are located in private conservancies bursting with the Big 5, which you can encounter on day and night game drives and nature walks (the latter activities are not permitted in national parks). Moreover, if you visit between July and October, you may witness one of the greatest natural spectacles: the Masai Mara wildebeest migration.

The Porini experience is founded on stunning locations, personal attention and comfortable spaces for reflection and relaxation. Each camp is small and intimate with only a handful of tents, each one a comfortable retreat with simple but stylish furnishings, en suite bathrooms, solar-power and private verandahs.

Itinerary Highlights

  • Explore two exclusive Big 5 conservancies
  • Stay at intimate Porini tented camps
  • Track the Masai Mara wildebeest migration
  • Search for Africa's big predators
  • Fly from camp to camp

Day to Day Itinerary

Days 1-2

Spot rhinos in the shadow of Mt Kenya

Having arrived in Kenya's capital city of Nairobi, begin your adventure at Wilson Airport and an air transfer to Nanyuki, a frontier town lying in the foothills of Mount Kenya. A short road transfer brings you to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a private conservation area that is home to the Big 5 and provides the largest sanctuary in Kenya for the highly endangered black rhino.

Your destination is Porini Rhino Camp, set in a peaceful, secluded valley of acacia trees and overlooking a seasonal river. Settle into your spacious suite and absorb the views from your private veranda. An intimate tented camp, amenities such as solar-power lighting, hot showers and flush toilets will soon make you forget that you are staying under canvas.

Wake up to the smell of early morning coffee and homemade biscuits placed just inside your tent by your Maasai warrior, a welcome daily ritual enjoyed by guests at all Porini camps. The early start is worth it: morning game drives in open-sided game viewing vehicles will take you in search of the Big 5 and other classic African animals. Afternoon game drives follow a lazy post-lunch snooze while exciting spot-lit night drives and guided nature walks add to the safari experience.

Days 3-4

Explore the iconic Masai Mara

Your safari continues with a flight over the green fields and tea plantations of central Kenya to the country's flagship reserve: the Masai Mara. Porini Lion Camp offers an authentic ‘away from it all’ experience thanks to its location in the private Olare Orok Conservancy, bordering the world-famous reserve.

Designed to have a minimum impact on the environment, Porini Lion Camp is an intimate tented camp in the same style as its sister camp. Ten tastefully decorated tents overlook the seasonal Ntikatiak River; amenities include solar-powered electric lighting, en suite bathrooms and private verandas, perfect for a moment of quiet reflection as you absorb the enormity of your new surroundings.

Make the most of your time in this exclusive-use, Big 5 reserve. Morning and afternoon game drives usually prove highly rewarding and if you have timed your visit to coincide with the great wildebeest migration then a hot-air balloon safari is almost obligatory. Expert guides will be keen to show you why the Olare Orok Conservancy is such a great location for spotting big cats: experience the thrill of a night drive and, if you are lucky, watching a pride of lions out on the hunt. Return to camp later for your own delicious meal served under the stars.

Day 5

Return home

Wake up to the familiar smell of morning coffee and biscuits before wandering over to the dining tent for a final breakfast on the savannah.  After bidding farewell to the Porini staff, a final game drive will take you back to the Mara airstrip for your flight to back Nairobi.

Take a little time to recall your best game sightings, perhaps the aerial view of the great migration, and the exceptional, friendly service from the camp staff as you wait for your flight home in Nairobi. You may be leaving for now, but you will be back some day soon.
