Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1

Welcome to Cape Town

On arrival at Cape Town International Airport, you will be welcomed by a representative and whisked to the award-winning Kensington Place Boutique Hotel. This stylish and hip hideaway is located high on the leafy slopes of Table Mountain. With beautiful mountain and city views, and easy access to the attractions of Cape Town such as the V&A Waterfront, the Blue Flag beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton, and Robben Island, this is a tranquil haven with the city at your fingertips.

Day 2

Tour the highlights of the Cape

After a made-to-order, seasonal breakfast, you set off on a guided tour to explore the sights of Cape Town. With dramatic scenery of cliffs plunging down to the sea, playful African penguins, beautiful beaches and gorgeous little seaside villages, you will soon understand why Cape Town is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Day 3

Explore the Winelands

Today you embark on a full-day tour to the picturesque wine country, where you visit several top estates for tastings of their finest vintages on offer. The countryside is nothing short of spectacular, with craggy mountains soaring over verdant vineyards that are bathed in sun. Stopping to enjoy a lunch at one of the estates along the way, you can indulge in fantastic cuisine while taking in the splendid scenery.

Day 4

Explore the city at your own pace

Enjoy a lazy breakfast and plan your day ahead. Your hosts are brimming with suggestions and ideas for making the most of what Cape Town has to offer, providing up-to-date information on artistic, culinary or cultural events in and around the city.

Days 5-6

A Zambezi adventure

Bid Cape Town a fond farewell and fly to Livingstone in Zambia, the closest town to the legendary Victoria Falls. A representative will meet you and drive you the short distance upstream to the exquisite Sindabezi Island lodge in the middle of the great Zambezi River. Each private suite is elevated on a secluded platform overlooking the river and its changing moods. Here you can allow the serenity of the Zambezi to envelop you, take a walk along a nature trail, visit an island for a special picnic or simply relax in your hot tub while the waters flow gently past.

There are also a host of activities to engage in, and the incredible spectacle of the Victoria Falls is an astonishing sight. This huge curtain of water is where the Zambezi plunges over a precipice and boils into the gorge below. Such is the tremendous energy of the waterfall that the spray from the falls can be seen for miles around, giving it the traditional name ‘The Smoke That Thunders’. After this impressive experience of nature’s awesome power, you can enjoy a wonderfully sedate cruise on the river at sunset as the sky turns into a dazzling display of colour.

Returning to the lodge in the evening, you will find it softly aglow in the light of lanterns, nestled in the embrace of the forest with the gentle whisper of the river gliding by. A private dinner on your verandah or, if you are feeling adventurous, on a floating pontoon bathed in lantern light is a fitting end to a beautiful day.

Days 7-9

Off to Botswana

Leave Livingstone for the short flight to Maun Airport, reputedly the busiest small airport in Africa and the gateway to Botswana’s incredible Okavango Delta. From here, board a light aircraft transfer to Nxabega, an exclusive camp nestling under a canopy of mature ebony trees. ‘Nxabega’ can be roughly translated as ‘place of the giraffe’ so be sure to look out for these gentle herbivores as the small plane swoops down to the airstrip.

Secluded but luxurious, Nxabega’s nine tents are raised on timber platforms overlooking the verdant waterways of the world’s largest inland wetland. Spacious and inviting, your tent features an en suite shower and tranquil décor. The main lodge overlooks lush floodplains from its expansive viewing decks and sparkling pool.

Explore this ancient land, which is home to elephant, leopard and antelope, on game drives and guided nature walks. Discover the waters on both mokoro (traditional canoes) and motor boat excursions. Canoes allow you to float dreamily through delicate waterlilies, discovering a wealth of birdlife, and being serenaded by iconic African fish eagles. Motor boats transport you to the deeper channels, past wallowing hippos in peaceful lagoons and buzzing dragonflies, finding the perfect place to salute the close of day with relaxing sundowners.

Days 9-11

Thrilling nights in the Delta

A light aircraft transfer once-again whisks you away from Nxabega to Xudum Delta Lodge in the south-eastern Okavango. Similarly exclusive, Xudum also features nine very comfortable suites with rooftop decks, private plunge pools and beautiful vistas. The lodge is situated in a private concession, meaning you and your guide can explore on both day and night game drives.
Once again, spend your days on gentle guided cruises, watching malachite and pied kingfishers swoop down into the sparkling water, and perhaps catching a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse of the rare, semi-aquatic red lechwe antelope.

Game drives provide the chance to see the Big 5, while guided nature walks offer a rare opportunity to track shy species, such as sitatunga antelope. Night drives are a special highlight: your guide is adept at spotting nocturnal creatures like leopards, porcupines, honey badgers and owls, and will interpret the sounds of the evening for you – the deep ‘cough’ of a calling lion, the snoring of dozing Cape buffalo, and the ‘laugh’ of a lone hyena.

A highlight of Xudum’s delicious cuisine is the invitation extended to you to interact with the chef as he prepares dinner, and the delightful folk entertainment put on by the staff while you dine.

Days 11-13

Encounters in the Savuti

Another air transfer leaves the Delta behind for the rugged plains of a wild and remote corner of Chobe National Park. This open savannah grassland is home to Savute Under Canvas, which has just six spacious and very comfortable tents.

During the dry season (about July to October), animals are concentrated around the sparse waterholes dotting the landscape. In the wet summer months (about November to June), vast herds of zebra migrate into the area to give birth, setting the stage for bittersweet drama as predators circle the herds to feast on the old and very young foals.

After a thrilling day on the savannah, return to the simple comforts of camp: a hot shower and delectable dinner served by your private butler. Beneath the star-studded sky, gather with your fellow safari goers around a crackling campfire to listen to the nocturnal symphony of the Savuti.

Day 14

Reflect on a spectacular trip

Transfer back to Maun Airport for your onward flight home, reflecting on the time you have spent in two of Southern Africa’s greatest places: Cape Town, Victoria Falls and Botswana. Remember the scent of wild basil, the lure of Table Mountain, the call of the fish eagle, and the thrill of the sunset over the Zambezi. You carry home a treasure of memories and photographs, newfound friends and insights gained into a city and a wilderness unlike any other on earth.
