Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1

Welcome to Cape Town

On arrival at Cape Town International Airport, you will be welcomed by a representative and whisked to the award-winning Kensington Place Boutique Hotel. This stylish and hip hideaway is located high on the leafy slopes of Table Mountain. With beautiful mountain and city views, and easy access to the attractions of Cape Town such as the V&A Waterfront, the Blue Flag beaches of Camps Bay and Robben Island, this is a tranquil haven with the city at your fingertips.

Day 2

Tour the highlights of the Cape

After a made-to-order, seasonal breakfast, you set off on a guided tour to explore the sights of Cape Town. With dramatic scenery of cliffs plunging down to the sea, playful African penguins, beautiful beaches and gorgeous little seaside villages, you will soon understand why Cape Town is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Day 3

Explore the Winelands

Today you embark on a full day tour to the picturesque wine country, where you visit several top estates for tastings of their finest vintages on offer. The countryside is nothing short of spectacular, with craggy mountains soaring over verdant vineyards that are bathed in sun. Stopping to enjoy a lunch at one of the estates along the way, you can indulge in fantastic cuisine while taking in the splendid scenery.

Day 4

Explore the city at your own pace

Enjoy a lazy breakfast and plan your day ahead. Your hosts are brimming with suggestions and ideas for making the most of what Cape Town has to offer, providing up-to-date information on artistic, culinary or cultural events in and around the city.

Days 5-6

A Zambezi adventure

Bid Cape Town a fond farewell and fly to Livingstone in Zambia, the closest town to the legendary Victoria Falls. A representative will meet you and drive you the short distance upstream to the exquisite Sindabezi Island lodge in the middle of the great Zambezi River. Each private suite is elevated on a secluded platform overlooking the river and its changing moods. Here you can allow the serenity of the Zambezi to envelop you, take a walk along a nature trail, visit an island for a special picnic or simply relax in your hot tub while the waters flow gently past.

There are also a host of activities to engage in, and the incredible spectacle of the Victoria Falls is an astonishing sight. This huge curtain of water is where the Zambezi plunges over a precipice and boils into the gorge below. Such is the tremendous energy of the waterfall that the spray from the falls can be seen for miles around, giving it the traditional name ‘The Smoke That Thunders’. After this impressive experience of nature’s awesome power, you can enjoy a wonderfully sedate cruise on the river at sunset as the sky turns into a dazzling display of colour.

Returning to the lodge in the evening, you will find it softly aglow in the light of lanterns, nestled in the embrace of the forest with the gentle whisper of the river gliding by. A private dinner on your verandah or, if you are feeling adventurous, on a floating pontoon bathed in lantern light is a fitting end to a beautiful day.

Days 7-10

Splendid Savute

Enjoy breakfast before departing by road across the border into Botswana. At Kasane Airport you meet your pilot for the short flight to Savute. Situated in the remote northern corner of the Chobe National Park, Savute Under Canvas camp moves locations periodically to remain in proximity to the herds of game and their predators. The region’s central feature is the enigmatic Savute Channel, an ephemeral waterway that mysteriously ebbs and flows with water over the decades. After an almost 30-year dry spell, the channel is once again flowing, bringing with it an astonishing amount of life attracted by its cool, clear waters. The surrounding savannah teems with grazing animals, and the area is known for its large population of lions.

The camp is intimate and secluded, set in a splendidly scenic location. Five canvas suites are served by a central lounge and dining area tucked in the shade of towering trees. Simple yet comfortable and undeniably elegant, the camp will make you feel like an early explorer in an untouched wilderness.

Days 11-12

An Okavango adventure

Depart Savute Under Canvas after your final morning activity and meet your charter plane for the flight to Nxabega in the Okavango Delta. Shortly after takeoff, this vast wetland will become visible on the horizon as you fly toward it, revealing a mosaic of channels, lagoons, tree islands and floodplains laid out in an incredible and complex pattern. Landing at the airstrip, your guide will meet you for the game drive to Nxabega Camp, where the first thing you notice is the difference in the landscape and vegetation surrounding you. Tall palm trees whisper in the breeze, towering over the grassland floodplains like sentinels, and dense tree islands hug the higher ground.

Arriving at Nxabega Camp, you discover an elegant haven tucked beneath a grove of African ebony trees overlooking a breathtaking, reed-fringed Okavango view. A wood and thatch main building flows through open spaces to expansive decks that seamlessly incorporate the environment with the living areas and invite you to settle in and absorb this timeless atmosphere of tranquillity.

Game drives here reveal a wide variety of interconnecting habitats that support an astounding diversity of life, from aquatic species to the inhabitants of the dry Kalahari woodlands. The region is a big game haven where leopards are often seen, and encounters with these beautiful cats are a thrilling highlight of any safari.

A wonderful way of experiencing the Okavango in all its glory is to step into a mokoro, a traditional-style dugout canoe, and gently slip through the maze of waterways overhung by ferns and crowded with water lilies. Silently gliding though the water, you are able to take in the sound of water murmuring by, the birds calling from the reed beds, and hippos grunting in the distance: this is the ancient song of the Okavango.

Days 13-14

The magic of Xudum

Depart Nxabega Camp on a game drive to your next destination: Xudum. This exquisitely-designed lodge lies on the edge of a permanent lagoon frequented by hippos that fill the air with their playful chortling. Built with double levels, the generous suites have a open air rooftop platform that provide a wonderful day time viewing deck or a romantic sleeping spot below a dazzle of stars. With such a wonderful setting, you will find it hard to leave the luxurious embrace of the lodge, but the Okavango holds many secrets and surprises that lure you to explore. Taking a motorised boat, you are able to venture into the deeper reaches of the Delta, where hippos pass below you in a stream of bubbles while you seek out the elusive and rare sitatunga antelope that inhabits the marshes and papyrus beds.

Returning to the lodge in the evening, you find a hot bath steaming in your suite, inviting you in for a blissful soak with a serenade of reed frogs providing a background orchestra. A table has been set for you below the stars, and gleaming silver and glassware shine in the soft light cast by lanterns. A sumptuous meal is served as you listen to the sounds of the African night around you, and sipping a glass of excellent wine, you are enveloped in the absolute romance and timelessness of the moment.

Day 15

Farewell home

After a final brunch on the terrace overlooking the lagoon, you depart for the airstrip for your flight home. As you wing your way over the crystal waters of the Okavango below, the memories of a fabulous fortnight wash over you: the beauty of Cape Town nestled on the slopes of Table Mountain, the awesome power of the Victoria Falls and the thrilling up-close and personal wildlife encounters of Savute and the Delta. These experiences, along with your photographs, will remain with you forever, and compel you to return to Africa again one day.
