overview

For 17 blissful days, you will be cocooned in luxury in three of Africa’s most inspiring landscapes: the beauty of Cape Town’s Table Mountain and rolling vineyards; the classic Big 5 country of acacia-dotted golden plains; and the palm-fringed turquoise waters of an untouched tropical island.

Begin your holiday in at Kensington Place in Cape Town, which is one of Africa’s most cosmopolitan cities and which showcases African, Malay and European heritage amid spectacular natural beauty. You then wing your way to a luxurious tented getaway in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, which shares an unfenced border with the world-famous Kruger National Park, the animals roaming freely between them (if your luck is in, you may spot the otherworldly white lions of Timbavati, which have snowy coats and mesmerising blue eyes). From Tanda Tula, you transfer to Ngala Tented Camp, which allows you to explore a private slice of the Kruger.

After days of inspiring dawn and dusk game drives, set off for Grand Baie on the northern shore of Mauritius. At Hotel 20° Sud, lounge under the coconut palms when you are not playing golf, sailing or snorkelling in warm, clear waters.
Perfect as a city-bush-beach honeymoon or a family vacation where there is ‘something for everyone’, this hassle-free holiday encompasses some of the highlights that southern Africa has to offer.

Itinerary Highlights

Day to Day Itinerary

Days 1-5

Into the Mother City’s welcoming arms

The pilot of your flight will no doubt point out the world-famous Table Mountain as you start your descent into Cape Town, locally and fondly known as the Mother City because of its status as the oldest in South Africa. And you will be able to see Table Mountain from your private vehicle as your driver ferries from you from Cape Town International Airport to Kensington Place, a charming boutique hotel in the foothills of this official Natural Wonder.

Kensington Place is an ideal base for your four days here. A short distance from the vibrant inner city and upscale shopping and restaurants, it is also conveniently positioned to reach the golden beaches of Clifton, the popular V&A Waterfront and, of course, the cable car up the mountain.

Wine lovers will enjoy exploring the vineyards of Constantia, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch while nature lovers should make their way to Boulders Beach to see a breeding colony of endangered African penguins, marvel at the floral variety in the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens and enjoy time at the Cape Point Nature Reserve.

Days 5-8

Tented luxury

After four relaxing days in Cape Town, you will catch short flights to Hoedspruit airport, where you will be welcomed by Tanda Tula’s friendly staff. Your days at Tanda Tula Safari Camp will be filled with enriching game drives to search for Timbavati’s famous white lions; a genetic quirk gives them pure white coats and bewitching blue eyes that lead ancient tribes to believe they were sent by God. Rise at dawn to seek out the Big 5 in the cool of the morning before passing the day at the swimming pool overlooking a popular waterhole, only to set out again after afternoon tea to check off nocturnal species like hyena, porcupine and bushbabies.

Although Tanda Tula is a tented camp, banish any thoughts of ‘traditional camping’. Your very comfortable suite has an outdoor shower and a bathtub, and sophisticated dining options that make the most of its special position amid 20 000ha of pristine wilderness.

Days 8-11

Paradise found

It is a short drive from Tanda Tula to your next port of call: Ngala Tented Camp in the Kruger National Park, South Africa’s biggest and most famous game reserve. Consisting of only six luxurious suites, Ngala prides itself on superb service and exceptional dining experiences, from lavish lunch platters to dinners under the stars alongside the Timbavati River.

Between game drives, cool off in the swimming pool or relax with a book and a drink on the raised deck of your room, pausing occasionally to watch the passing birds or acrobatic vervet monkeys leaping

Days 11-12

Bright lights

Bid farewell to the bush as you fly from Hoedspruit to Johannesburg, where you are collected by a driver and whisked to The Residence, which is in Houghton, the city’s most affluent neighbourhood and once home to late president Nelson Mandela. Choose between working out in the private gym, on the tennis courts or in the pool, or simply unwinding on the rooftop bar. Golf fanatics who are missing the fairways may find time to play 18 holes on the top-notch Houghton Golf Course.

Rooms are individually decorated with French crystal chandeliers and Persian carpets, and the en suite bathrooms each have spa baths. Gourmet meals can be enjoyed alongside the tranquil koi ponds or in the manicured gardens.

Days 12-16

Island life

After an effortless night at The Residence, the beach is more than beckoning. Soon you will be touching down in paradisal Mauritius for five night at Hotel 20° Sud, the most intimate luxury accommodation on the island.

Found on the northern shores of Mauritius, 20° Sud is nestled in a secluded coconut grove on the shore of Grand Baie. Get your adrenaline pumping with windsurfing, sailing or kite boarding; set your soul at rest with an indulgent and rejuvenating treatment at the spa. Of course, 20° Sud’s swimming pool surrounded by inviting sun loungers is never far away…

Day 17

Til Next Time

After breakfast bid adieu to Mauritius and cast your mind back over your holiday memories: a white lion cub peeking out at you; a black rhino grazing lazily in the distance; a vervet monkey chattering overhead; Table Mountain glowing in the sunset – the smells, sights and sounds of Africa have immersed themselves within your imagination forever.
