Day to Day Itinerary

Days 1-2

A royal treat at King's Pool Camp

After arriving in Johannesburg, South Africa, a scheduled flight whisks you north to Maun, the gateway to Botswana’s magnificent northern wilderness. Your final air transfer is wonderfully scenic - a light aircraft flight over the Okavango Delta to Kings Pool in the Linyanti region. This area is something of a hidden gem in Botswana but those in the know, know what a superb game viewing destination it is. Since the Savute Channel began flowing again in recent years, the area has attracted an impressive winter (June to September) population of elephant along with its resident populations of predators. The Linyanti is an internationally recognised premium birding destination with an excellent resident selection of Botswana’s 550 species-strong bird list.

The lodge is elegant and stylish; the thatch, canvas and timber architecture makes the most of the hot climate and cooling breezes. Your suite comes complete with a private plunge pool and gazebo to make the most of afternoon siestas and views over a busy lagoon. There is competition for the best view in the form of an underground hide with the unique  viewpoint of being eye level with the water, which means fascinating close ups of elephant trunks and legs as these massive creatures bathe and wade in the fresh water.

Days 3-4

Classic Botswana at Vumbura Plains

A quick and picturesque air transfer whisks you to Vumbura Plains on the outer fringes of the Okavango Delta. Overlooking a classic Botswana vista of floodplains and mopani woodland, the lodge’s sophisticated canvas, glass and timber architecture makes the most of the views wherever you care to look. There are two camps here: Vumbura North and South, both featuring contemporary design, ultra comfortable suites and each limited to just 14 guests. Whever you stay, you may find it hard to leave your suite with its indoor and outdoor lounges, private plunge pool and outdoor sala.

The Vumbura Plains are home to both wet and dry game-viewing areas, which means a range of habitats and rich diversity of wildlife. This is one of the best places in southern Africa to see a thriving cheetah population. Sable antelope are a main attraction along with large herds of buffalo and zebra. Rare bird species, like Pel’s fishing owls and wattled cranes, are easier to observe on guided nature walks. All in all, this lodge and area offer you a fresh perspective on the African wilderness with a range of activities that include game drives, walking, boating and mekoro expeditions.

Days 5-6

Heart of the delta at Mombo Camp

A quick scenic flight brings you to Mombo Island and its legendary Mombo Camp, on the north-west edge of Chief's Island in the Moremi Game Reserve. This is arguably one of Africa’s best game-viewing areas and has featured in award-winning wildlife documentaries.

Morning and afternoon game drives make the most of the abudant wildlife, especially Mombo’s thriving lion prides and large herds of buffalo and elephant. In fact, the rich year-round populations of antelope, zebra and buffalo supports almost all of Africa’s top predators. Birding is also superb here – Botswsana is an excellent destination for birders, and each of the settings on this safari offer a diverse resident and migratory bird population.

Mombo Camp makes the most of its setting by being raised on timber decks – from the communal lounge and dining areas, along the interconnecting walkways and the nine tented suites, the entire camp is about two metres (6.5 feet) off the ground. Wildlife wanders peacefully below the walkways and there are breathtaking views out over the waterways and teeming floodplains everywhere you look. Each suite has a private sala and spacious deck to make the most of the afternoon siesta period, that is if you do not find yourself lazing around the swimming pool on a comfortable day bed. This luxury lodge offers every comfort in one of Africa – and the world’s – most beautiful wilderness settings.

Day 7

Fairlawns Boutique Hotel and Spa

After a last scenic flight over the Delta back to Maun, and a scheduled flight to Johannesburg, you find yourself checking into the Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa. The City of Gold is one of Africa’s economic lungs and a busy, modern metropolis with shopping centres, museums, art galleries and cultural tours to vibrant Soweto. You spend a blissful night in this elegant sanctuary, reflecting on a thrilling week of adventure and indulging in wellness treatments in the award-winning spa.

Days 8-14

Medjumbe in the Quirimbas

A scheduled flight takes you from Johannesburg to the little town of Pemba on the Mozambique coast. From here a private, scheduled air transfer whisks you over postcard-perfect tropical waters to the remote Medjumbe Private Island, which forms part of the magnificent Quirimbas Archipelago off northern Mozambique. Anantara Medjumbe Island Resort & Spa is the ultimate island retreat. Ideal for romantics, the vacation villas are private with incomparable settings.

This secluded and idyllic location has some of the most breath-taking coral reefs that you can explore on snorkelling and diving excursions. Hours can also be spent lounging on the beach, enjoying the incredible views, and dipping in the Indian Ocean's turquoise waters. A range of exciting water sports, like wind surfing and water skiing, are also available and you can return to your room for a dip in your private plunge pool or sip on a cocktail as you look out over the ocean.

Day 15

Farewell paradise - thanks for the memories!

Your unforgettable adventure comes to an end as you wing your way over the Mozambique's tropical waters to Pemba, onward to Johannesburg and your flight home. You have see elephants at play in the Kings Pool lagoon, witnessed cheetahs hunting on the Vumbura Plains and encountered a Mombo leopard. You have slipped through the Indian Ocean’s tropical waters and feasted on fresh seafood under a starry night sky. You are rested and rejuvenated, carrying the scent of wild sage and the cry of the fish eagle home with you.
