overview

You begin your 15-day ‘honeymoon holiday’ in Africa’s fairest city of Cape Town where you stay at a lavish guesthouse close to some of the city’s major attractions, yet far enough away from the hubbub to afford you some quiet time. With spectacular mountain and city views, Four Rosmead is an idyllic and elegant base from which to explore the Mother City and the surrounding Winelands while providing a sanctuary for relaxation.

You then head to Garonga Safari Camp, which is situated in the greater Makalali Conservancy west of the Kruger National Park. When not on a 4x4 in pursuit of wildlife on this Big 5 reserve, enjoy catching up with your partner in this camp that epitomises romance. Take baths while immersed not only in bubbles but also the splendid wilderness, or indulge in a couple’s massage. Dine by candlelight on your suite’s secluded patio or sleep-out in a private tree house for a night with nobody around for miles.

After a night’s stayover at the City Lodge in Johannesburg, your next port of call is Dugong Beach Lodge, which is set on a secluded beach in Mozambique. The emphasis here is on water sports but you can of course do nothing but sunbathe all day on the white-sand beach and take romantic sunset walks along the palm-fringed shore.

Itinerary Highlights

  • Table Mountain & Robben Island
  • Endangered African penguins at Boulders Beach
  • The Cape Winelands & V&A Waterfront
  • Big 5 reserve with open-air baths & tree-house
  • Couples massage & private dining
  • Seaside chalet with direct beach access
  • Sunset dhow cruises
  • View turtles & dolphins in a marine sanctuary

Day to Day Itinerary

Days 1-4

Be embraced by the Mother City

On your arrival at Cape Town International Airport you are transferred to Four Rosmead Boutique Guesthouse. Set dramatically on the slopes of iconic Table Mountain, this national monument dates back to 1903 and has since been beautifully refurbished into a Cape contemporary classic. Enjoying panoramic views of Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, Table Bay and the twinkling skyline from its Oranjezicht address, this opulent stayover is within easy walking distance of many of the city’s hotspots. However, while it is near to trendy Kloof Street, the V&AWaterfront and Table Mountain, it is far enough away from the buzz that you and your partner will still be afforded some quality time together under the care of the helpful staff.

Enjoy breakfast on the terrace each morning where you have superb views over the stunning property. Its manicured gardens are a tranquil oasis where you might enjoy a dip in the sparkling pool or a snooze in a lounger under the shade of a tree. Appointed with all the modern amenities you would expect, your individually decorated suite is adorned with charming shutters covering its arched windows and a cosy fireplace to take the bite out of chilly evenings.

Spend your time in Cape Town wandering the urban-chic streets of Oranjezicht, browsing the small boutiques and dining at the city’s finest restaurants. Take a walk hand-in-hand down the Sea Point Promenade and feed the seagulls from a bench overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The V&A Waterfront is a shopper’s paradise and the launch point for a ferry to Robben Island and a guided tour of Nelson Mandela’s prison cell. Visit a handful of Constantia wine estates for tastings and finish off with a lavish lunch at a restaurant overlooking the vineyards set against the backdrop of Table Mountain National Park. Boulders Beach is among Cape Town’s most secluded, and here you will meet thousands of endangered penguins and enjoy a tour of the stunning Cape Peninsula along the way.

Days 5-7

Big game at Garonga

After breakfast on the terrace, this morning you are transferred back to the airport before you connect with another flight to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, where you are collected and chartered by light airplane to Garonga Safari Camp. This exclusive owner-run and managed camp is situated in the greater Makalali Conservancy west of the Kruger National Park. Your double-roomed tented suite is draped in white linen and equipped with an en suite bathroom, private patio and an outdoor shower that provides a charming link between the sheer luxury of your suite and the allure of Mother Nature. Encounter a rich diversity of wildlife – including the Big 5 – on morning and afternoon 4x4 game drives, while walking safaris and spotlit night drives bring the conservancy’s small animals and nocturnal life to the fore.

Specialising in bush romance, this superb safari camp features open-air bathtubs that overlook the plains dotted with acacias. Imagine lying in ambient light, bubbles-to-your-chin with your partner drinking a glass of champagne as you hear birds and the distant roar of a lion over your whispers. The camp’s living and dining area is adjoined by an elevated viewing deck where you savour meals by candlelight paired with some of South Africa’s finest wines. Enjoy a couple’s instructional massage, learning how best to indulge your partner, or enjoy an aromatherapy treatment in the open gazebo. For a novel experience you can spend a night sleeping out in a tree house with almost all of the comforts of your suite but only the enchanting wilderness surrounding you. For a private dining experience, have dinner on your suite’s secluded patio or take a delectable picnic to enjoy somewhere special.

Day 8

Back to the city

After breakfast you are transferred back to the airport to connect with a flight to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg from where you are escorted to City Lodge, very near to the airport itself.

Days 9-14

Mozambican magic

This morning you are transferred back to the airport for your flight to Vilanculos in Mozambique, where you take a transfer by boat to Dugong Beach Lodge. Set on a secluded beach where sea turtles nest and dolphins play just offshore, this chic beach lodge within the Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary comprises just 10 luxuriously appointed tented suites with hardwood floors. The emphasis here is on the indigo ocean where you can enjoy a number of non-motorised and motorised water sports, including kayaking, sailing and snorkelling as well as water skiing and tubing. You can, of course, do nothing but sunbathe all day on the white-sand beach, with nothing to concern you but the tide coming in and out. Another focus is fine dining and, with the Indian Ocean right on your doorstep, you may not be surprised that some of the menu’s specialties are dishes prepared using surf-fresh fish, prawns and crayfish.

Waking up in your gorgeous seaside chalet with direct beach access, you take the wooden walkway to the alfresco dining area for breakfast while soaking up stunning views past the long jetty that fronts the lodge out to the cerulean Indian Ocean. Hand in hand, you walk along the palm-fringed beach leaving the first footprints in the silky soft sand before taking pleasure in a gentle cruise in a pedalo on the turquoise water. For lunch, you have asked the kitchen to pack you a picnic which you enjoy on a sandbank with 360° views of your tropical surroundings. Head out to sea on a traditional dhow, the enormous white sail set high above you and catching the breeze as you witness the fireball sun slowly dip behind the horizon. Take your seafood by candle and starlight alone on the jetty and savour the chef’s Portuguese-inspired dishes.

Day 15

Farewell Vilanculos

After breakfast you are transferred back to Vilanculos where you connect with a flight back to Johannesburg and onwards home.
