Day to Day Itinerary

Days 1-4

Go local in Cape Town

On your arrival at Cape Town International Airport, you are transferred by road to Kensington Place – an intimate boutique hotel set dramatically on the slopes of iconic Table Mountain with breathtaking views of the city and harbour. Located in the trendy neighbourhood of Higgovale, its sophisticated and minimalist design incorporates touches of traditional Africa throughout. The cutting-edge hotel – which has featured in numerous international design and décor magazines – is an ideal base from which to explore the award-winning city of Cape Town. Its lush gardens and cobalt swimming pool provide sanctuaries of serenity for daytime relaxation.

The fact that breakfast is served throughout the day exemplifies the laid-back atmosphere of Kensington Place. A seasonal menu is always on hand should you wish to dine by the pool or on your own private terrace. Before you have even set foot into the hotel, the concierge will have made dinner reservations at top city restaurants for the duration of your stay.

On your third morning, you are fetched at the hotel for a Cape Town Art Route Tour. This half-day excursion introduces you to a collective of city artists at Greatmore Studios before visiting other artists – both city- and township-based – in their own studios, learning about their life stories, creative processes and how they use the Mother City as inspiration in their work.

Days 5-7

The magic of Madikwe

This morning you are transferred back to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport where you board a flight to Madikwe Game Reserve. You are collected at the airstrip by your ranger and transferred in a 4x4 to Jamala Madikwe Royal Safari Lodge, where you are accommodated in one of just five lavish free-standing villas within a Big 5 reserve that is renowned for regular sightings of cheetah and wild dog. Tucked beneath a canopy of fragrant leadwood trees, this owner-run safari lodge has a colonial design and incorporates the vibrant colours of Africa to achieve an aesthetically-pleasing fusion. The double bedroom of your stone-and-thatch villa is equipped with a 4-poster bed and its distinctive décor includes handmade furniture and pencil sketches portraits of wildlife found on the reserve. Your chic bush abode opens onto an expansive wooden deck equipped with an infinity plunge pool and an outdoor shower that offer never-ending views.

Twice-daily 4x4 game drives on this malaria-free reserve put you into contact with a rich diversity of wildlife and these excursions are supplemented by ‘sofa safaris’ on the raised viewing deck, which is fronted by a waterhole where animals regularly come to drink. Before heading out on afternoon drives, enjoy your pick from a magnificent spread of sweet and savoury teatime treats. In the library you can find a book to read on a sofa in the elegantly appointed open-air lounge which is decorated with beautifully-carved wooden antiques and African artefacts. Cool off in the sapphire swimming pool by day and take the chill out of the evening sitting around a roaring camp fire with a glass of sherry before dinner. The award-winning chef prepares innovative nouvelle cuisine that is served in the formal dining room, outside on the starry deck or in the privacy of your own suite.

Day 8

A night at The Residence

After breakfast, fly out from Madikwe back to the airport where you are fetched in a Rolls Royce and transferred to The Residence. Located in the affluent neighbourhood of Houghton – home to late President Nelson Mandela – this hotel is characterised by regal charm and boasts superb attention to decorative detail in everything from its extravagantly furnished sitting areas and lounges, to your individually designed suite.
