overview

The first leg of this 2-part journey takes you to one of Botswana’s most beautiful conservation areas, the Okavango Delta. This incredible natural wonder was created millions of years ago by the shifting of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, and today millions of gallons of water flood the Delta each year, creating a wonderland of wooded islands, permanent lily-filled swamps and lagoons, and seasonal floodplains dotted with palms, sausage trees, fig trees and scrub. The Delta offers good year-round game viewing of iconic African game, and you can also sight an abundance of water-loving birds and uncommon aquatic antelope like lechwe and sitatunga.

Your journey then crosses over to Linyanti, another of Botswana’s water habitats that is dominated by permanent rivers and vast floodplains. This region is known in particular for its excellent sightings of endangered African wild dogs but also has large herds of buffalo and elephant as well as healthy populations of all the big cats.

Accommodation is in small tented camps and you will travel between each destination on a light aircraft. Transfers are quick and convenient, taking you to the most untouched and remote locations and allowing you to appreciate Africa’s landscapes from the air.

Day to Day Itinerary

Days 1-3

Discover the Okavango Delta

Beginning at Maun Airport, you will board a light aircraft and take a scenic flight to Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta. Your first base is Xigera Camp, located on the pristine Paradise Island in the heart of the Delta. Here you will spend the next three days exploring the intricate waterways of Botswana’s famed aquatic landscape on foot and by boat. A Delta safari is synonymous with the country’s traditional mode of transport – the mokoro. These thin dugout canoes are guided by skilled local game rangers and are a peaceful way to experience the Delta, its wildlife, scenery and birdlife. Motorboats are used for covering greater distances, while guided nature walks offer the most intimate of safari encounters.

Xigera Camp is a luxurious tented lodge elevated on stilts with lovely lagoon views. Spacious tents offer a private and comfortable space to unwind after a day of adventure, and your own viewing deck allows you to savour the sights and sounds of the early mornings and evenings.

Days 4-7

Safari in Linyanti

A short but scenic air transfer takes you north to a private concession in the Linyanti region for three days at Linyanti Bush Camp. Marshlands in front of the camp offer excellent birding, and with only six tented suites you are guaranteed warm hospitality and a personalised safari experience. Tented suites offer authentic and down-to-earth accommodation that includes a comfortable bed, crisp white linen and en suite facilities.

There are year-round game drives and guided nature walks to enjoy, and when water levels are higher mekoro safaris allow you to experience the Linyanti wilderness from the water. Off-road driving and night excursions are permitted on the private concession so you can follow all the action, and spot shy nocturnal animals in the early evenings.
