Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1

Explore trendy Johannesburg

Your safari starts in Johannesburg at the luxurious Westcliff Hotel where you will stay for one night on a bed and breakfast basis. Johannesburg is a lively, affluent and cosmopolitan African city and offers a tempting array of superb restaurants, elegant designer boutiques and dazzling world-class shopping centres.

Days 2-3

Fly into the Northern Moremi

After breakfast you will be transferred via chauffeur-driven limousine to Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport for your flight to Botswana.

After arriving in Botswana, you will be transferred to Khwai River Lodge, a long-standing camp overlooking the Okavango Delta's seasonal floodplains and the Moremi Game Reserve.

The area is renowned for its dense concentrations of large mammals so don't be surprised to see herds of elephant wandering past or predators in action on the floodplains in front of camp - indeed, much game viewing can be done simply from the comfort of your private deck. Morning and afternoon game drives will take you into the heart of the action, and exciting night drives can be conducted in the lodge's private concession.

You can also come close to nature in a slightly different way as Khwai River Lodge indulges you in what it calls its 'Naturally Wild' aromatherapy treatment - all in the privacy of your own luxurious tent.

Days 4-5

Look for the elephants at Savute

After two nights at Khwai River Lodge you'll be flown by light aircraft to Savute Elephant Camp, set in the legendary Savute region of the Chobe National Park.

Often referred to as the elephant capital of the world, Savute, or Savuti as it is sometime spelled, is right at the heart of Chobe's big game experience. Savute Camp is just metres away from a major waterhole which allows for superlative dry-season game viewing. You'll have ample opportunity to observe elephants at very close distances as well as a chance to see all the major predators - lions and hyena are very common here, and the area is also home to wild dog, leopard and cheetah.

Spend two nights at this tented camp, taking advantage of its swimming pool to cool off during the day, and enjoying expertly led morning and afternoon game drives.

Note that there is a big difference between Savute's dry winter and wet summer seasons - ask us for more information.
