Travel in an elegant luxury train, across a tapestry of South African landscapes on this 9-day tour.

The tour departs annually in May/June and travels from Pretoria to Cape Town through some of South Africa's most breathtaking panoramas and includes a golfing itinerary as well as non-golfing activities.

From the Highveld grasslands at Malelane, through the beautiful Swaziland region, and on to the rolling hills of KwaZulu Natal, this Rovos luxury train tour offers fantastic game-viewing opportunities, including a game drive in the legendary Kruger National Park and Addo Elephant Park.

Visit an ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn, before stopping in the picturesque Knysna and travelling along the scenically beautiful Garden Route. Experience an informative tour of a brandy distillery, before arriving in the Mother City, Cape Town.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1

Begin your Rovos Rail journey

Depart from Pretoria's Capital Park Station as the luxury train makes its way east to Malelane. Settle into your modern suite, explore the public areas and enjoy excellent cuisine in the elegant dining car for lunch and dinner.
Day 2

A Kruger Park game drive

Start your day early with a game drive in the world-class Kruger National Park. Enjoy an amazing game drive in open vehicles as you search for the famous Big 5. Brunch is served in the dining car as the luxury train makes its way to Swaziland through Komatiepoort.

On arrival in Swaziland, you will enjoy another spectacular game drive at Mkhaya Game Reserve. The Rovos luxury train then departs for an overnight journey to Hluhluwe in Zululand.

Day 3

See game in the Hluhluwe Game Reserve

Today you’ll enjoy another exciting early morning game drive, this time in the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, after which the train will continue on towards Durban. You’ll arrive in Durban in the early evening, where you will have the evening to explore this beautiful coastal city.

Day 4

Journey to Bloemfontein

Your luxury train tour continues as you depart Durban and head for Bloemfontein. Your day will be spent on board the Rovos Rail train as you look out at the changing landscape from the Observation Car.

Day 5

Stroll through this historical city

On arrival in Bloemfontein, you’ll set out on a tour of this historical city, known by its residents as the City of Roses because of the abundance of these flowers. Depart Bloemfontein as the train makes its way to Port Elizabeth.

Day 6

Encounter elephants in Addo Elephant Park

Today you will tour the magnificent Addo Elephant National Park, which protects five of South Africa's seven biomes and hosts the so-called ‘Big 7’ - elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard, whale and great white shark. A midday departure sees you journeying on towards Oudtshoorn.

Day 7

Visit an Ostrich Farm

Visit one of the many ostrich farms in Oudtshoorn, in the Klein Karoo, before the steam train sets off for the small coastal town of George. Upon arrival in George, the centre of the Garden Route, you have the afternoon at leisure to explore the sights. Round off the day with dinner at the Fancourt Estate.

Day 8

Take a tour through Knysna

After a morning tour of the idyllic town of Knysna or a round of golf at the Ernie Els Oubaai Golf Club, you’ll set off again on Rovos, for your final destination - Cape Town.

Day 9

Visit a brandy distlllery in Worcester

On route to Cape Town, the Rovos luxury train will stop in Worcester where you will visit the KWV Brandy Distillery for a guided tour. You luxury train tour reaches the Mother City, in the early evening, signalling the end of your scenic train journey.
