This luxury African train tour takes you across some of Southern Africa's most magnificent sites as you relax in comfort and watch the landscapes transform.

Beginning in Cape Town, your journey takes you across the Klein Karoo and past the diamond mines of Kimberley before stopping for two nights in the wildlife abundant Madikwe Game Reserve. Catch a glimpse of Botswana before heading into Zimbabwe and making an adventurous stop at the Victoria Falls.

Learn all about Zambia as you traverse its plains and stop to experience the Chishimba Falls. Cross the vast Selous Game Reserve before entering Tanzania and coming to a final stop at the coastal city of Dar es Salaam.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1

Explore the quaint town of Matjiesfontein

Depart from Cape Town Station on the Pride of Africa luxury train as your journey begins. Relax in the observation car and watch the landscapes speed by as you make your way to Matjiesfontein, arriving in the early evening. Explore this romantic Klein Karoo town and return to the train for dinner.

Day 2

See Kimberley's Big Hole

Just after lunch, you’ll arrive in Kimberley where you can enjoy a relaxed 2-hour tour of the Big Hole and the Diamond Mine Museum.

Day 3

Take a tour of Jacaranda city

Arrive in Pretoria just before lunch and enjoy your meal in the Rovos Rail Station. Embark on an afternoon tour to see more of the city that is known for its jacaranda trees which colour the city purple at certain times of year.

Days 4-5

Spot the Big 5 in Madikwe

This morning, you’ll arrive in Zeerust, where you’ll spend the next two nights at Tau Lodge. Situated in the Madikwe Game Reserve, this 5-star lodge is the perfect base from which to enjoy game drives in one of South Africa's biggest game reserves. Morning and afternoon drives will provide the ideal opportunity to spot Africa's Big 5.

Days 6-7

Admire the ever-changing landscapes

Enjoy one last morning game drive before transferring to the Rovos luxury train for a midday departure. Sit back and relax as you travel through Botswana and Zimbabwe, watching the landscape change as you go. Spend time relaxing in the observation car, in your suite, or in the lounge car where you can listen to interesting talks by the train’s resident historian.

Days 8-9

Cruise on the Zambezi

Arrive at the magnificent Victoria Falls where you'll be spending the night. After a delicious lunch, go on a scenic sunset cruise on the Zambezi River to take in these dramatic surroundings.

Spend the next day at leisure enjoying a tour of the Falls, a game of golf, a helicopter ride, a walk with lions, or various exhilarating water sports. Board the train once again as you head for the Zambian border.

Days 10-11

Learn about and see Zambia

Continue travelling through Zambia, passing through the capital city of Lusaka during lunch. Relax and gaze out the window or learn more about the country as you listen to the on-board historian's interesting tails.

The next day you'll be passing through Serenje and Mpika on your way to Kasama, with the historian on hand to share fascinating insights into these landmarks.

Day 12

Marvel at the Chishimba Falls

Enjoy breakfast on the train before disembarking at Kasama and stretching your legs on a bush walk in Zambia's impressive Chishimba Falls. Continue toward Tanzania in the afternoon, completing the border formalities before bed time.

Day 13

Travel across the Selous Reserve

Reach Tunduma, the border between Zambia and Tanzania, in the morning and greet the country as you make a scenic descent down a beautiful pass entering Mlimba. Enjoy a different kind of game reserve experience as you pass through the vast Selous Reserve by train while the historian teaches you about the surroundings.

Day 14

Arrive at the coast

Enjoy one last breakfast on the train before arriving in Dar es Salaam where your tour comes to an end.
