Tanzania has an overwhelming selection of geographical phenomena. Not only does it have the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, within its border, and the geological marvel that is the Ngorongoro Crater, but it can also lay claim to the second deepest and the second largest lakes in the world, Lake Tanganyika and Lake Victoria respectively.
Tanzania manages to mix its unique geological features with abundant wildlife, to provide some of the best game viewing in Africa.
The Tanzania parks and reserves are without a doubt some of the best (and most untouched) game viewing destinations in the world. Both Ruaha and Selous are considered unparalleled wildlife destinations.
Selous Game Reserve is quickly becoming Africa's hottest rising safari star, while Ruaha is also rapidly climbing up the safari ranks after poaching in the 1980s left it badly bruised and battered. Many believe the two areas to offer the best game viewing in Africa
Katavi National Park offers a primal and game rich wildlife experience. Gombe Stream National Park and Mahale Mountains National Park are both located on the shore of Lake Tanganyika and offer primates galore. Hike through forests and encounter chimpanzees, baboons, monkeys and many more.
As if the bush weren't enough, Tanzania also has a scattering of islands, strung out like jewels along its coastline, that are well worth living out your tropical island fantasies on ... places like Zanzibar beg exploration.
There are also a number of sites in Tanzania that are of such cultural and environmental significance that they've been given World Heritate status. You can go game viewing in the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, see the birthplace of Swahili culture in Zanzibar's Stone Town and visit some of Africa's most noteworthy and oldest rock art sites as well as the palaeontological treasures of Olduvai Gorge.
