As South Africa's judicial capital, Bloemfontein has become known through the years as 'the central city', 'the hospitable city', 'the congress city' and 'the city of roses'.

Bloemfontein (meaning flower garden) is a focal point for most of the surface transport systems in the South Africa. Approximately a dozen roads radiate in all directions and Bloemfontein boasts the largest railway workshop in the country.
