The LOC is the body ultimately responsible for all matters pertaining to the 2010 World Cup Championship.
On 15 April 2004, the South African Football Association (SAFA) was awarded the right to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ following the successful submission of its bid to the FIFA.
A seperate legal entity
SAFA sought, and was granted, FIFA's consent to house the local organising committee in a separate legal entity to perform the obligations detailed in an Organising Association Agreement (OAA) and to separate the administrative activities in respect of the Championship from the general operational functions of SAFA.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee South Africa™ (the "LOC”) was duly incorporated and SAFA assigned its rights and obligations in terms of the OAA to the LOC. The LOC thus assumes the responsibility for the execution of SAFA's obligations in terms of the OAA.
The LOC is structured such that the various participants in football and operational activities associated with football are represented on the board of the LOC. The board of the LOC comprises representatives of SAFA and the Government together with independent third parties.
All about the skills
This inclusive approach is to ensure that there is a co-ordinated effort in the preparatory activities and the implementation of the Championship. Each participant has specific skills and expertise that contribute to the combined undertaking to successfully host the Championship.
