Situated only a few minutes drive from proposed FIFA and team hotels in Bloemfontein, the Free State Stadium (also known as Vodacom Park) is a dedicated sporting environment.

In order to host first- and second-round matches for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, the Free State Stadium had to undergo minor renovations.

A second tier was be added to the main grandstand increasing the seating capacity to 48, 000 (including a VIP suite of 650 seats), new turnstiles were put in, the floodlights were upgraded, electronic scoreboards were installed and the sound system was revamped - bringing the total cost of the upgrade to R314 million (R9.5 million under the allocated budget).

Renovations began in September 2007, and were completed in time for the Free State Stadium to host four Confederations Cup matches, beginning on 15 June 2009 when Egypt took on five-times World Cup winners Brazil.

This World Cup stadium is close to independent cricket, hockey and athletics stadiums, as well as secondary fields. It has a good record of safety and security, ample parking and excellent corporate hospitality.

Free State Stadium will host: 5 first-round matches and 1 second-round match of the 2010 World Cup.
