George Weah was born on October 1, 1966 and raised in the Clara Town slum of Monrovia.

In 1995 Weah was named FIFA World Player of the Year, European Footballer of the Year and African Footballer of the Year.

Considered to be the best African football player of all time, George Weah started his career at Invincible Eleven in his native country Liberia and Tonnerre Yaounde in Cameroon. He moved to Europe in 1988 to play for Monaco, where he won the French Cup in 1991.

George Weah has also played for Paris Saint Germain, AC Milan, Chelsea, Manchester City and Olympique Marseille, amongst other clubs.

Weah was very successful in playing at club level, and also captained the Liberian national team, with which he never managed to fulfill the dream of qualifying for a FIFA World Cup final competition. He is sometimes referred to as the best footballer never to have played in a FIFA World Cup finals. Weah has since become a humanitarian and political figure in Liberia and ran unsuccessfully in the 2005 Presidential election.

Weah has tried to use football as a means to bring happiness and promote education for children in Liberia. He is the President of the Junior Professionals, which is a football team he founded in Monrovia in 1994. Many of the junior professionals have gone on to play for the Liberian National Team.

George Weah has managed to use his talents to achieve what was thought to be unreachable for many Liberians. He cares about his country and his people and can be considered as a sport hero in the entire world.
