About Royal Bafokeng Stadium:

Located in Rustenburg, in South Africa's North West Province, the Royal Bafokeng Stadium was originally built as a venue for the 1995 Rugby World Cup, but has since become more of a football venue.

The stadium was completely funded by the Royal Bafokeng Nation, an administrative entity presiding over the world's richest platinum mines.

The wealth of the Bafokeng people has resulted in this World Cup stadium being very well equipped, so few renovations were required to bring it up to FIFA standards: new electronic scoreboards, floodlights and a new public address system were added.

The seating capacity was increased from 38, 000 to 42, 000 and a new cantilever roof added - bringing the total cost of the upgrade to around R360 million. Renovations were completed in time for Royal Bafokeng to be one of four stadiums to host the 2009 Confederations Cup.

Access is simple as the stadium is built on open land and so has extensive parking facilities. Royal Bafokeng is a 90-minute drive from Johannesburg and 25-minute drive from Sun City.

Royal Bafokeng Stadium will host: 5 first-round matches and 1 second-round match of the 2010 World Cup.
