Even now, heroes of the past are working to build the future. Motaung was one of the members of the Board of the Bid Company bidding to host 2010 in South Africa

On 15 May 2004, history had been made: it was the time of Africa and South Africa to stage the world's greatest sporting festival. It was twenty-one minutes past noon in Switzerland when the envelope was opened, its contents withdrawn and FIFA President Sepp Blatter's long-awaited words, barely audible above the noise, were spoken.

"I am delighted that an African association has earned the right to host the FIFA World Cup”, said the head of world football's governing body as the South African bidding delegation embraced before a press conference at the World Trade Centre in Zurich.

The World Cup was coming to South Africa! With all due respect to rugby and cricket, the 2010 World Cup was the biggest event by some margin that the Rainbow Nation had yet been accorded the honour of hosting. It was a massive sporting success.

Today, Sono is one of the ambassadors of the South African 2010 World Cup.

Roared on by one united nation, SAFA and South Africa is ready to host the greatest event in the game, to stage the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Yes, everyone is aware of the massive economic opportunity, and everyone is excited by potential benefits for the country but, at its heart and core, South Africa is driven by the people's pure, unadulterated and uncomplicated love of the game.
