Zambia is an ornithologist's dream. It has 751 different recorded species and a wide range of undisturbed natural habitats. During and after the rains (December to April) there is an increase in insects, seeds and fruits, making this the best time to see birds in Zambia.

Zambia has a wider variety of species than most surrounding countries and also receives many migrant species from October to April. Many rare and unusual species, such as the shoebill stork found in the Bangweulu Swamps make Zambia an exciting birding destination.
