With Zambia's tourist industry as a whole still emerging, the vast majority of visitors head for Zambia's impressive wildlife reserves.
Zambia is host to one of Africa's most impressive parks, and one famous for its walking trails: the South Luangwa National Park. Stunning scenery and great game viewing based around the Luangwa River make this park probably the best in Zambia.
The sleepy town of Livingstone serves as the base from which to explore Victoria Falls and its surrounding areas, including the Mosi Oa Tunya National Park and the less known Livingstone Island.
North of Victoria Falls lies Zambia's largest reserve - the Kafue National Park, classic Big Game country with rivers full of hippos and crocodiles. It is also, like all the parks in Zambia, a birder's paradise.
On the banks of the Zambezi River and opposite Zimbabwe's Mana Pools National Park is Zambia's newest park: the beautiful Lower Zambezi National Park, ideal for those who want to experience the Zambezi River's diverse wildlife by boat, canoe or game drive vehicle.
