Chiawa Camp is located on the banks of the Zambezi River, in the heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park. With the mountains of the Zambian Escarpment as backdrop, dotted with ancient baobab trees and shaded by forest of mahogany and acacia, it is an idyllic setting for a safari camp.
The charming thatched lounge with its upstairs observation deck, bar and dining area, looks over the Zambezi River. There is a fireside barbeque area and a reed-enclosed boma where you could recount the events of the day under a starlit sky.
The Zambezi River Valley is home to an abundance of game and wildlife. Herds of elephant and buffalo are common place and, during the dry winter months, they congregate in vast numbers along the banks of the Zambezi.
Plains' game and antelope such as impala, waterbuck, and kudu abound, while the Zambezi River teems with crocodiles, hippo, and an impressive array of bird life. A large concentration of predators can also be found, with lion and leopard viewing being excellent in the area.
View the game on day and night game drives, and on guided walks. River cruises and canoeing provide a wonderful opportunity to view game at close quarters, especially elephant. Anglers will have the opportunity to experience the thrill of catching the infamous tigerfish on a catch-and-release basis.
