Eastern Province, Zambia » Parks and reserves » Lukusuzi National Park

This remote and desolate park is on the eastern side of the spectacular Luangwa Valley, slightly higher in altitude than the other parks in the valley. Almost half of the park consists of a plateau, and the remaining area is dotted with rocky outcrops. Miombo woodland is dominant, with rolling grasslands on the plateau and along the riverbanks.

It is uncertain how much wildlife has survived the poaching here, and rather than the lion, it is thought that the dominant predator is the spotted hyena. The surviving game species in the park are similar to those found in other Luangwa Valley Parks and include elephant, buffalo, blue wildebeest, eland, Liechtenstein's hartebeest, roan, sable, klipspringer and warthog.
