Ndola lies 320 kilometers north of Lusaka. It is an important commercial centre and the second largest city in Zambia. Ndola is considered the hub of Zambia's copper mining area (known as the Copperbelt).

The town is the gateway to the mineral producing region of the country and there are many manufacturing industries located here.

The oil pipeline from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania ends its 1700 km journey at the Ndola refinery. Two of the national newspapers are printed in Ndola - the Times of Zambia and the Sunday Times.
