Serenje is a small Zambian town lying just off the Great North Road from Lusaka, the capital, from which it lies about 300km to the northeast. It offers basic amenities for the traveller - petrol, a police station, a hotel and a restaurant - and that's about all.
The small and narrow Mulembo Falls are nearby to Serenje. A long cascade of rapids, they are certainly impressive - especially when in flood - and are worth a visit if you've time on your hands in this area. That said, they hardly bear comparison with some of the other waterfalls in southern Africa.
