Luangwa River Lodge is a great little safari lodge offering exclusive luxury in a remote and beautiful section of Zambia's incredible wilderness. This owner-run lodge, on the banks of the Luangwa River, successfully combines all the creature comforts of 5-star accommodation with a true African safari experience.

The lodge has been constructed using local natural material including palm stalks, indigenous timber, thatch and red earthen plaster. Great attention to detail has gone into the locally crafted and hand made décor.

As the lodge is elevated on wooden decks, you are able to look down on the river and even do a spot of game viewing while relaxing alongside the infinity swimming pool or in the open-plan lounge. A range of holistic massage treatments is also available.

The lagoons, Miombo woodland and plains of the valley host huge concentrations of game from the big cats right down to over 400 species of birds. Luangwa's guides are not only knowledgeable, but clearly have a great passion for the area. You can go on two game drives daily or, for a different view of the bush, we recommend a walking safari. River boat safari trips are also offered (depending on the water level).

Meals at Luangwa River Lodge are a real treat. The French-trained chef cooks up delicious fusions of modern European and African cuisine. Dinner is a three-course affair. Dine at the lodge or opt for a candlelit bush picnic alongside the lake.

Luangwa River Lodge has five twin or double-bedded bush suites, catering for no more than 10 guests at any one time.

These thatched chalets are individually decorated in warm, earth tones. The spacious bathrooms have a shower and sunken bathtub, big enough for two. Both the bedrooms and bathrooms have large folding doors leading to the outside deck, where there is a private boma - with great views over the river and park.
