Birdlife of Victoria Falls

The avifauna around Victoria Falls is outstanding, with over 400 species of birds to be spotted.

Casual birders will see fish eagles, Egyptian geese, many kingfishers, bee-eaters, ibis, storks, egrets and herons. Ardent bird watchers will want to spot rare species, like the Taita falcon, rock pratincoles, African skimmers, collared palm thrushes, and African finfoots.

If you're looking for an excellent birding location, you can't do much better than Batoka Gorge. Keep an eye open for raptors in particular as the gorges have 36 species of birds of prey, 16 of which have special protection status.
