Health

There are no major threats to your health and safety at Victoria Falls, unless you place yourself in harm's way by leaning over the chasm!

As in most of southern Africa it is advisable to take a course of anti-malarial tablets before visiting the Victoria Falls area - just to be on the safe side.

Any person entering Zimbabwe from a yellow fever or cholera infected area, must be vaccinated against these diseases and have a valid International Certificate of Vaccination.

The towns of Livingstone and Victoria Falls Town have clinics, and for anything more serious than they can handle they'll fly you to Hwange or South Africa.

Safety

Zimbabwe has been getting plenty of bad press lately, but Victoria Falls is generally a very safe destination.

The Vic Falls Tourism Police are a comforting presence. They are trained to ensure visitors' safety and also, where necessary, prevent street salesmen from becoming an irritation. You should also be careful of wandering around near the Falls at night. Elephants often wander around at this time, so it's best to go with a companion if you do.

Victoria Falls is one place where you should be very wary of relying on your credit card for payment. Not only are credit card facilities few and far between, but mysterious surcharges are numerous.
