The marketplaces around Victoria Falls are quite something. Just inside the Zambian border is a marketplace that draws traders from as far as the Democratic Republic of Congoa and Malawi, while Mukuni Park in Livingstone contains another vibrant marketplace.

You can buy wooden and stone carvings, chessboards, masks, drums and a variety of other handmade goods. Mahenge baskets are probably the best buy here, as they come exclusively from Zambia's western province.

The Zimbabwean side has similar offerings, and it's easy to find a really good bargain on high-quality Shona sculptures and wooden carvings.

Shopping at the large outdoor market can be quite an intense experience with the constant patter of "looking is free” or "which one you like”.

It is definitely worth supporting these local traders though, and many stallholders are even willing to swap crafts for clothes or stationery.
