Zimbabwe is home to approximately 650 bird species in 71 families. Mana Pools National Park is probably the best place to go birdwatching in Zimbabwe. From April to December African skimmers breed on the river's exposed sand banks, and in September particularly, huge flocks of carmine bee-eaters are joined by flocks of whitefronted bee-eaters.
The magnificent African fish eagle and many others can be seen around Lake Kariba, while Hwange National Park is excellent for raptors and small birds.
Zimbabwe's eastern border with Mozambique is another exciting birding destination, especially for waterbirds, waders and species that live in lush habitats.
