Zimbabwe's parks and reserves were initially set up as a means of using otherwise unproductive land. Once conservation values evolved, however, the parks gradually earned Zimbabwe the status of world-leader in conservation management. Now Zimbabwe's eleven national parks (and many other reserves) conserve the country's natural and wildlife resources. Hunting is prohibited in the reserves, and each offers a distinct and unique safari experience based on its particular mix of habitats and wildlife.
