The Zimbabwean unit of currency is the Zimbabwean dollar (Z$), which is divided into 100 cents.

Rampant inflation has rendered the currency all but worthless. Foreign currency is therefore widely accepted and prices are usually also displayed in US$. What's more, foreigners are requested to settle their accommodation payment in foreign currency, preferably US$.

Credit Cards

MasterCard, Visa, Diners and Amex are no longer accepted in Zimbabwe. We therefore recommend taking US$ bills in smaller denominations, US$ 50 bills or less, in order to facilitate payment.

In addition, you will need to pay cash for all your optional excursions or tours in Zimbabwe.

Travellers Cheques

Zimbabwe banks will not exchange travellers cheques, and they are also not widely accepted at restaurants etc, so rather avoid them.

Banks

Banks in Zimbabwe are open for business during the following hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 08:00 - 15:00 Wednesday 08:00 - 13:00 Saturday 08:00 - 11:30

Major hotels have foreign exchange facilities, and usually offer a more favourable exchange rate than banks.

Tipping

Tips of 10% are usually expected by taxi drivers and at hotels. Service charge is often included in a bill, but when not, a 10% tip is acceptable.
