Zimbabwe » Travel Areas

It is helpful for the visitor to divide Zimbabwe into tourist regions based on the character of the area and activities offered there.

The main tourist region is of course Victoria Falls with its myriad of activities and sightseeing. The Hwange Region to the south of Victoria Falls offers the Big Five experience of the Hwange National Park and the Bulawayo Region is full of history based in and around Zimbabwe's second largest city.

The magnificent Matobo National Park is also nearby. Moving north-east will take you to the Kariba Region - home to the massive wildlife-packed Lake Kariba and Matusadona National Park. Further downstream will bring you to the Lower Zambezi region and the superb game park of Mana Pools National Park.

The capital city of Harare sits in the Harare Region and for those who want to get off the beaten track then try the sleepy Midlands region. Further south will take you to the Masvingo Region, home to the awe-inspiring ruins of Great Zimbabwe.

For a hot, lowveld wildlife experience head for Gona-Re-Zhou Region and the Gonarezhou National Park. To see a totally different face of Zimbabwe the mountains and cool, dripping forests of the Eastern Highlands South and Eastern Highlands North offer hiking, fishing and birding.

For those who wish to see how Zimbabwe is divided into its administrative regions, a list of the 8 provinces is listed below.
